Morale was suddenly back in the tank and I was excited to be paid fairly. Finally, after months of asking, I finally got put on the bonus program and was, for the first time, paid for the job I was doing. My morale was in the dumps due to working excessive hours without the ability to actually take a lunch or any actual break and coming in on the weekends to finish paperwork, all for pay that in no way matched my responsibilities or performance. By that time we were consistently profitable above company expectations, had 100% exceptional customer reviews, and wholesale business was returning more than it had in years. My service writer was (very rightfully) promoted to manage one of the other stores in June 2021, so I was left alone to operate the store for 2-3 months. To spare the details- I was the sole manager from October of 2020 to August of 2021. I bring this up, as it speaks to my ability to manage, delegate, and recognize and reward talent. I pushed to get her to full hours with a raise, and within 6 months she was promoted to manage another store. I was told that they still "weren't sure" and that they'd let me know in a few weeks.ĭuring these months, I recognized that the service advisor I was working with was capable of far more than just answering the phones as she had been hired for. At three months, I asked about getting on the proper pay plan. Things weren't perfect as I figured things out, but I was performing all of the duties of my position and was maintaining a profitable service center. I made it through the three months with moderate performance success, achieving all of the few actual tangible goals that were set forth for me. When I was given the "promotion" to store manager, I was given a $1/hr raise over my service writer pay, and was told that I'd be put on the manager pay plan (salary + monthly performance bonus) within 3 months. I was ABSOLUTELY a team player and was very invested in the idea of this being a long term career. Hell, I got the bids for new flooring, I stayed late for weeks cleaning out the offices and painting the lobby, replacing light bulbs. I loved my coworkers, I loved the customer interactions, and I was VERY committed to the company. I was a service writer and then a store manager for one of the service shops. ![]()
